1. A ROUTINE 911 CALL TAKES A TURN

It was just after 7 p.m. on April 19, 2024, when Flagler County deputies responded to a Palm Coast, Florida, duplex after a 911 call about a woman who was reportedly highly intoxicated.

Deputies soon encountered 40-year-old Julia Jones, who they said was having difficulty maintaining her balance and smelled strongly of alcohol.

What happened next would turn a welfare check into a chaotic arrest. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

2. DEPUTIES TRY TO KEEP HER AWAY FROM TRAFFIC

Deputies initially appeared focused on preventing Jones from wandering into the roadway.

They asked her to stand beside the patrol vehicle because she was reportedly swaying toward passing traffic.

But instead of settling down, Jones became increasingly agitated.

According to the sheriff's office, she began screaming at the deputies as they tried to control the situation. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

3. THEN SHE ALLEGEDLY SPITS ON THE DEPUTIES

The encounter escalated when deputies attempted to detain Jones.

Officials said she struggled to break free and spit on the deputies during the struggle.

After several minutes, deputies and medical personnel were eventually able to get her into handcuffs and place her inside a patrol vehicle. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

4. THE ARREST DOESN'T CALM HER DOWN

Being placed in the patrol car didn't end the confrontation.

FOX 35 reported that Jones continued yelling and berating deputies from the back seat, repeatedly demanding that they let her out.

The bodycam footage captured the increasingly tense exchange as deputies attempted to continue the arrest. (FOX 35 Orlando)

5. THEN SOMETHING EVEN MORE DISTURBING HAPPENS

During the drive to the detention facility, deputies said Jones began repeatedly banging her head against the back of the patrol vehicle.

The deputy eventually stopped the vehicle and told her to stop.

But according to the footage reported by FOX 35, Jones continued screaming and refused to comply. (FOX 35 Orlando)

6. THE DEPUTIES HAVE TO INTERRUPT THE TRANSPORT

At that point, the deputies had another safety concern to deal with.

Rather than simply continuing the trip to jail, they stopped and addressed Jones's behavior inside the vehicle.

The bodycam footage shows just how quickly the situation had moved beyond a straightforward intoxication call. (FOX 35 Orlando)

7. A SEARCH OF HER BACKPACK REVEALS MORE

The arrest also resulted in a search of Jones's backpack.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, deputies found a small purple bag containing three white pills. The pills were identified as acetaminophen and hydrocodone. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

That discovery added another element to the case as deputies prepared to process the arrest.

8. SHE IS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BEFORE JAIL

Because Jones had repeatedly struck her head inside the patrol vehicle, deputies did not simply continue straight to the detention facility.

She was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being taken to the Flagler County jail. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

9. THE ARREST LEADS TO MULTIPLE CHARGES

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said Jones was arrested on charges including disorderly intoxication in a public place, causing a disturbance, battery on a law enforcement officer, and possession of hydrocodone.

She later posted a $7,500 bond and was released. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

The later record is important: Flagler County Sheriff's Office reporting in 2026 says the 2024 battery charge was not prosecuted, while Jones was found guilty of disorderly intoxication and resisting an officer without violence. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)

10. THE BODYCAM CAPTURED EVERY TWIST

What began with deputies responding to a report of an intoxicated woman quickly became a chaotic confrontation involving alleged spitting, resistance, screaming and repeated head-banging inside a patrol vehicle.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office released bodycam footage of the arrest, and FOX 35 later published portions of that footage. (Flagler County Sheriff's Office)
