Suspect Pulls Out Gun While Dancing, Police Encounter Turns Dangerous

A routine morning in a Sacramento neighborhood quickly turned into a dangerous armed confrontation after residents reported seeing a man waving a firearm in the street. What made the incident even more unusual was the suspect's behavior: witnesses said he was DANCING WHILE HOLDING THE GUN and pointing it toward passing vehicles.

ARMED MAN DRAWS ATTENTION IN THE STREET

On November 28, 2021, Sacramento police received multiple calls about an armed man in the 6200 block of Lemon Hill Avenue.

Witness footage later released by police showed the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Jacob Armada, walking in the street with a firearm. At one point, he reportedly pointed the weapon toward an approaching vehicle, forcing the driver to back away.

THE SUSPECT WAS REPORTEDLY WAVING THE GUN IN THE AIR WHILE DANCING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.

Police quickly began searching for him as additional information came in from witnesses.

OFFICERS CONFRONT THE SUSPECT

Officers eventually located Armada near an apartment complex. As they approached, they saw him walking toward the second-floor breezeway.

Bodycam footage captured officers exiting their patrol vehicles and issuing commands. Instead of surrendering, police said Armada turned toward an officer and pointed his firearm at him.

Gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and an officer.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, one officer was struck by a bullet, but the round only pierced the officer's uniform pants and nearly missed his leg. No officers or other community members were reported seriously injured during the shooting.

SUSPECT FLEES AFTER THE SHOOTOUT

Despite the gunfire, Armada managed to escape from the immediate area on foot.

Police established a large perimeter and launched an extensive search involving SWAT, crisis negotiators, helicopters and unmanned aerial systems. Officers from several agencies also assisted with the search.

WHAT BEGAN AS A SEARCH FOR AN ARMED MAN TURNED INTO AN EIGHT-HOUR MANHUNT THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

HIDING IN A TRASH CAN — K9 ENDS THE SEARCH

After hours of searching, officers received information about a suspicious person inside the perimeter. Eventually, SWAT officers located Armada hiding inside a trash can.

Officers repeatedly ordered him to surrender, but police said he did not comply. A police K9 was then used to help take him into custody.

Armada suffered minor injuries during the K9 apprehension and was transported to a local hospital before being booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail. Police said he faced allegations including attempted murder of police officers, assault with a deadly weapon, assaulting a police K9 and resisting arrest.
