Sovereign Citizen Refuses to Cooperate — Cop Takes Action

A routine traffic stop in Detroit quickly escalated when a driver refused repeated orders from Michigan State Police to step out of her vehicle. The woman reportedly claimed that she was a “sovereign citizen” and did not have to comply with the officers.

TRAFFIC STOP TURNS INTO A STANDOFF

Michigan State Police stopped the 54-year-old woman from Macomb Township around 10 p.m. on December 31, 2023, along westbound Interstate 94 near Interstate 75. Troopers reportedly suspected that she was driving while impaired.

When officers instructed her to exit the vehicle, she refused. THE DRIVER CONTINUED TO REMAIN INSIDE THE CAR DESPITE MULTIPLE ORDERS FROM POLICE.

According to police, she identified herself as a sovereign citizen during the encounter.

OFFICERS BREAK THE CAR WINDOW

After several attempts to convince the woman to leave the vehicle voluntarily, troopers took further action.

A TROOPER BROKE THE DRIVER'S-SIDE WINDOW AND OPENED THE DOOR. Police then attempted to remove the woman from the vehicle.

The woman reportedly pushed and pulled against the troopers as they attempted to take her into custody.

POLICE FINALLY TAKE HER INTO CUSTODY

Despite the resistance, officers eventually removed the woman from the vehicle and placed her under arrest.

No injuries were reported involving either the woman or the troopers. Authorities subsequently obtained a search warrant for a blood draw as part of an investigation into whether she had been driving while impaired.

At the time of the initial reports, the woman's name had not been released and she was being held at the Detroit Detention Center pending prosecutorial review.
