🚔 A ROUTINE CHECKPOINT TURNS INTO A HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT
What began as a ROUTINE SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT IN ARKANSAS quickly turned into a dangerous police pursuit on November 9, 2024.
According to the trooper's report included with the released video, Arkansas State Police troopers were conducting a sobriety checkpoint when a silver SUV approached. Instead of stopping, the vehicle reportedly stopped approximately 100 yards from the checkpoint, began backing away, and then accelerated in an attempt to avoid the officers.
The incident is a powerful example of how quickly a seemingly ordinary TRAFFIC ENCOUNTER can develop into a serious pursuit.

The image shows an Arkansas State Police trooper standing near the roadside as the silver vehicle sits nearby. The rural road, open fields and police vehicle create the exact setting in which the encounter unfolded.
⚠️ THE DRIVER CROSSES THE CENTER LINE
After the vehicle refused to remain at the checkpoint, troopers attempted to intervene.
The released account states that the SUV crossed the center yellow line while traveling on a curve. Troopers then activated emergency lights as the vehicle continued onto another roadway.
At one point, the driver was reportedly seen moving around inside the vehicle and reaching toward the passenger area. A trooper then performed a TACTICAL VEHICLE INTERVENTION (TVI) in an attempt to prevent the SUV from reaching a higher speed. The first intervention temporarily stopped the vehicle, but the SUV recovered and continued.

🚨 THE PURSUIT ESCALATES
The pursuit continued onto Arkansas roads, with the vehicle reportedly reaching speeds of MORE THAN 70 MPH.
According to the incident account, the SUV was driven erratically, crossed the center line and forced approaching motorists toward the shoulder to avoid a possible collision. Troopers continued following while coordinating their movements.
The report states that officers ultimately carried out MULTIPLE TACTICAL VEHICLE INTERVENTIONS during the pursuit. A later KTLO report said officers conducted four TVIs before the vehicle was finally boxed in and stopped.
This part of the incident highlights one of the most dangerous elements of a police pursuit: THE RISK TO OTHER ROAD USERS.
👮♂️ TROOPERS MOVE IN TO MAKE THE ARREST
Once the SUV was stopped, the situation was still not over.
According to the released report, the driver attempted to climb out through the driver's-side window. Troopers ordered him out and physically removed him from the vehicle after he continued resisting.
Several officers were involved in restraining the suspect before handcuffs could be secured. The suspect was later identified as NICHOLAS THOMAS KOSKINEN, according to police records and subsequent local reporting.

🔎 WHAT TROOPERS FOUND AFTER THE PURSUIT
Following the arrest, investigators searched the SUV.
The released account described marijuana, THC-related items, drug paraphernalia and other suspected controlled substances. Local reporting later stated that the arrest resulted in 17 CHARGES, including felony fleeing, resisting arrest, DWI-related offenses, reckless driving and drug-related charges.
The case later returned to court. In December 2024, KTLO reported that Koskinen pleaded guilty to the latest charges and received a 16-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE in Baxter County Circuit Court.
🎥 WHY BODYCAM AND PURSUIT FOOTAGE MATTER
Incidents like this demonstrate why POLICE BODYCAM, DASHCAM AND PURSUIT VIDEO have become an important part of modern law-enforcement documentation.
Video can show the sequence of events from the officers' perspective — from the initial checkpoint and attempted stop to the pursuit, tactical interventions and eventual arrest.
For viewers interested in REAL POLICE ENCOUNTERS, this Arkansas incident provides a detailed look at how a routine checkpoint can rapidly become a dangerous pursuit involving multiple officers and several attempts to stop a fleeing vehicle.
