🚨 Dramatic PIT Maneuver Sends Stolen Truck Into a Violent Rollover Crash | Florida
🚨 FLORIDA HIGH-SPEED POLICE PURSUIT ENDS IN A DRAMATIC PIT MANEUVER AND ROLLOVER CRASH
OSCEOLA COUNTY, FLORIDA — A high-speed police pursuit on the Florida Turnpike came to a dramatic end when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper used a PRECISION IMMOBILIZATION TECHNIQUE (PIT MANEUVER) to stop a stolen Chevrolet Avalanche.
The incident, which occurred on January 1, involved multiple law enforcement agencies and was captured from both ground and aerial perspectives. Years later, the footage continues to provide a striking example of how a dangerous vehicle pursuit can develop in a matter of minutes.

The aerial image shows several law enforcement officers su
rrounding the overturned vehicle after the pursuit came to an end. The footage also shows the perspective of an aircraft operated in support of the law enforcement response.
According to WFTV, the pursuit began after the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office received information about a STOLEN 2006 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE traveling on the Florida Turnpike. An air patrol unit was tracking the vehicle before officers attempted to stop it.
🚔 THE PURSUIT QUICKLY ESCALATED
The attempted traffic stop turned into a high-speed pursuit. Authorities said the driver, identified as 24-year-old Dakota C. Middleton, continued driving and eventually struck a patrol vehicle.
During the pursuit, officials reported that the stolen vehicle used the shoulder to pass traffic and at one point traveled in the wrong direction on the highway. Speeds reportedly reached approximately 98 MPH, creating an increasingly dangerous situation for officers and other motorists.

The chase continued toward Osceola County, where local deputies joined the effort to stop the vehicle.
One of the most important elements of the response was the use of STOP STICKS. Deputies deployed the tire-deflation devices in an attempt to slow the stolen truck.
⚠️ STOP STICKS FAILED TO END THE CHASE
The first attempt did not immediately bring the pursuit to an end. The vehicle continued moving even after its tires were damaged.
A second deployment eventually disabled another tire, producing sparks as the damaged vehicle continued along the highway. WESH reported that officers continued coordinating their response while the suspect remained behind the wheel.
STOP-STICK / HIGHWAY PURSUIT VISUAL

At this point, the situation had become particularly dangerous because the vehicle was damaged but still moving. Officers had to balance the need to stop the pursuit with the danger created by a disabled vehicle traveling at high speed.
🚓 THE FHP TROOPER USES A PIT MANEUVER
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper eventually moved into position behind the stolen truck and performed a PIT MANEUVER.
The Precision Immobilization Technique is designed to cause a fleeing vehicle to lose directional control and come to a stop. In this case, the maneuver caused the Chevrolet Avalanche to leave the roadway and ROLL OVER.
PIT MANEUVER SEQUENCE

The aerial footage provides an unusually clear perspective of the final moments. The vehicle can be seen leaving the roadway before coming to rest while several law enforcement vehicles move toward the crash site.
Officer.com reported that the PIT maneuver was performed after deputies had used stop sticks and that the stolen vehicle ultimately overturned and stopped on the right shoulder.
👮 OFFICERS MOVE IN AFTER THE ROLLOVER
Once the truck stopped, law enforcement officers immediately approached the wrecked vehicle.
The aerial footage shows officers surrounding the overturned truck and checking the vehicle. WESH reported that officers eventually removed Middleton from the vehicle and transported him to a hospital for MINOR INJURIES.
OFFICERS AT THE CRASH SCENE

The response illustrates another important part of a police pursuit: THE MOMENT THE CHASE ENDS IS NOT NECESSARILY THE END OF THE INCIDENT.
Officers must still secure the scene, check the suspect, assess possible injuries and make sure the surrounding roadway is safe.
📹 WHY POLICE BODYCAM AND AERIAL FOOTAGE MATTER
Cases like this demonstrate why POLICE BODYCAM, DASHCAM AND AERIAL VIDEO can be valuable when documenting law enforcement activity.
A dashcam can show what the pursuing trooper saw from the patrol vehicle. An aerial camera can provide a completely different perspective, showing the movement of the suspect vehicle, patrol units and officers on the ground.
Together, these recordings can help viewers understand the TIMELINE OF A POLICE PURSUIT, from the initial attempt to stop a vehicle to the final arrest.

The original footage also demonstrates how quickly conditions can change during a pursuit. A vehicle that begins as a stolen-car investigation can become a major public-safety incident involving multiple agencies, high speeds, damaged tires and a rollover crash.
🔎 WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THE CRASH?
According to WFTV and Officer.com, Middleton was taken to a hospital after the rollover and was later booked into the Osceola County Jail.
Authorities said he faced charges including GRAND THEFT AUTO and AGGRAVATED ASSAULT ON A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. WESH additionally reported charges involving fleeing and eluding with disregard for safety.

The case remains a compelling example of a pursuit that crossed jurisdictions and required coordination between local deputies, state troopers and aerial support.

For viewers interested in REAL POLICE ENCOUNTERS, this incident also shows how different forms of police technology can work together. Aircraft can track a suspect from above, patrol vehicles can pursue from the roadway, stop sticks can be deployed ahead of the suspect, and dashcams can document the action from the officer's perspective.

🚨 A PURSUIT THAT ENDED IN SECONDS
The final moments of the chase happened quickly. After traveling at high speed and continuing despite tire damage, the stolen truck was stopped by a PIT maneuver and rolled onto the roadside.
IMAGE #10 — FINAL ROLLOVER / OFFICER RESPONSE
For police-bodycam and pursuit viewers, the footage provides a detailed look at the CHASE, PIT MANEUVER, ROLLOVER AND ARREST in one continuous law-enforcement incident.
It also highlights why POLICE PURSUITS CAN BECOME HIGHLY COMPLEX VERY QUICKLY. What begins as a stolen-vehicle investigation can involve multiple agencies, specialized equipment, aerial surveillance and difficult decisions on the roadway.
The January Florida Turnpike pursuit remains a powerful example of how REAL POLICE ENCOUNTERS ARE DOCUMENTED FROM MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES, giving the public a closer look at what happens before, during and after a high-speed pursuit.
