Chrysler 300 Leads Police on a Wild High-Speed Chase
A routine traffic stop can turn into a dangerous high-speed pursuit within seconds. In the footage shown here, a black Chrysler 300 is seen ahead of a pursuing police vehicle as the driver appears to accelerate away from officers.
A video matching the supplied title documents a July 31, 2021 pursuit involving a black Chrysler 300 in Georgia. According to the video description, the chase began after an officer observed the Chrysler performing donuts at an intersection in Atlanta. The driver then accelerated away when the officer attempted a traffic stop.
The Traffic Stop Quickly Fails
The incident reportedly began on Jonesboro Road. After the officer activated the emergency lights, the Chrysler did not stop and instead accelerated away.
The pursuit immediately became more serious because the driver was traveling at high speeds through city streets. The pursuing officer notified the Georgia State Patrol radio room as other law-enforcement units became involved.
The Driver Speeds Through City Streets
According to the account accompanying the footage, the Chrysler continued through several Atlanta-area roads while being pursued.
The driver reportedly traveled through Cleveland Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway before entering other roads. At one point, the vehicle crossed a curb and drove through a private parking lot, creating an additional risk for pedestrians and other people nearby.
A Tire Blows Out
The pursuit became even more dangerous when the Chrysler hit a curb and damaged its right rear tire.
Even after the tire was lost, the driver reportedly continued fleeing at a high rate of speed. A damaged vehicle can be much harder to control, especially during sudden turns or emergency maneuvers.
Instead of stopping, however, the driver continued toward GA 166.
Police Use a Pursuit Intervention Technique
As the chase continued, an officer attempted a PIT maneuver to stop the Chrysler. The first attempt did not successfully rotate the vehicle.
The pursuing officer then approached a blind intersection and determined that allowing the chase to continue could create an additional danger. A second, more forceful PIT maneuver successfully rotated the Chrysler and pushed it off the roadway.
The Chase Ends Near a Tractor-Trailer
After the maneuver, the Chrysler struck a parked tractor-trailer and finally came to a stop.
The end of the vehicle pursuit did not immediately end the incident. According to the footage description, both the driver and a passenger fled from the Chrysler and attempted to escape on foot.
The Suspect Runs Into a Wooded Area
Officers pursued the fleeing driver after he abandoned the vehicle. One officer attempted to use a Taser but missed both shots, allowing the driver to continue toward a wooded area.
Additional officers joined the foot pursuit, and the driver was eventually captured. The driver was taken for medical evaluation before being transported to the Fulton County Jail for booking.
A Pursuit That Keeps Escalating
What makes the footage particularly dramatic is the number of times the situation changes. It begins with an attempted traffic stop, develops into a high-speed chase, continues after the vehicle loses a tire, and finally becomes a foot pursuit after the Chrysler crashes.
The incident demonstrates how quickly a fleeing driver can create multiple hazards for police officers, pedestrians, and other motorists. The pursuit ultimately ends only after officers use a vehicle intervention maneuver to bring the Chrysler to a stop.
