Bodycam Shows Edmond Officer Attacked During Traffic Stop

What began as a routine traffic stop in Edmond, Oklahoma, suddenly turned into a violent struggle when an unrelated man approached an officer from behind. The entire confrontation was captured by dashcam and body-worn camera footage.

A ROUTINE TRAFFIC STOP

On May 1, 2025, Edmond Police Officer Caleb Hodam was conducting a traffic stop near 15th Street and Broadway. While speaking with the driver, Hodam noticed a man approaching from behind.

THE OFFICER HAD NO WARNING THAT THE SITUATION WAS ABOUT TO TURN VIOLENT.

The man was later identified as 22-year-old Ocean Hudson. According to police and court records, Hudson was not the driver involved in the traffic stop.

THE ATTACK HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING

Video shows Hudson suddenly pepper-spraying Hodam in the face before the two became involved in a physical struggle. During the fight, Hudson produced a large knife and stabbed the officer multiple times.

Hodam managed to force Hudson toward the ground while repeatedly ordering him to stop.

WHAT STARTED AS A NORMAL TRAFFIC STOP HAD TURNED INTO A FIGHT FOR THE OFFICER'S SURVIVAL.

A BYSTANDER STEPS IN

As the struggle continued, a passerby stopped and rushed toward the two men. The bystander helped separate Hudson from the knife and contacted police for assistance.

A second Edmond officer arrived shortly afterward and used a Taser when Hudson failed to comply with commands. Hudson was eventually taken into custody.

OFFICER RECOVERS FROM SERIOUS INJURIES

Officer Hodam was transported to OU Health and underwent surgery for his injuries. He was later released from the hospital and continued his recovery.

The case continued through the courts. In May 2026, Hudson pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges. On July 23, 2026, the Oklahoma Attorney General announced that he had received three life sentences plus an additional 13 years in prison.
